Zach Bryan drew attention during his two-night run at Gillette Stadium by performing in a black Free Palestine T-shirt, bringing a political message to one of the biggest concerts of his tour.

During the October 2 show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Bryan’s shirt also featured the phrase An Appeal to Heaven and a pine tree, imagery with roots in the American Revolutionary era. Several members of his band appeared onstage in clothing carrying similar pro-Palestinian messages.

The display came weeks after rapper Macklemore was barred from performing at Gillette Stadium following comments and imagery that stadium owner Robert Kraft characterized as antisemitic. That earlier dispute became part of a wider controversy surrounding Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour.

Bryan returned to the stadium on October 3 and again wore the shirt. The second concert also set a new attendance record for Gillette Stadium, with 73,538 people in the crowd.

Representatives for Bryan and Kraft had not publicly commented on Bryan’s clothing choice.
